A selection of Class 56 pictures, again mainly around the Midlands, from the early 1980s through to their premature demise in the UK in 2004.

Freshly painted in engineer's grey and yellow, the so called
Freshly painted in engineer's grey and yellow, the so called "Dutch" livery, 56036 rattles over Worksop Station Crossing with the 6F43 1350 Cottam PS-Worksop SS empty MGR on a misty 12th February 1994.
56s took over many of the Didcot MGR turns during the early 1980s from slow speed fitted 47s. Here 56042 rumbles through Widney Manor station on 5th August 1983 with 7V65, the 1215 Bagworth-Didcot PS MGR.

A regular 56 turn was the twice daily flow of refuse from Cricklewood to the Shanks & McEwans landfill site at Forders Siding, Stewartby, on the Bedford-Bletchley line. In the late evening of 31st May 1990, having run round, 56045 backs 6A62, the 1812 from Cricklewood RTS into Forders.

By 1991 the flow was using a rake of POA wagons leased from Tiger Rail and they are seen here passing the disused Sutton Park station behind 56048 on 5th July 1991, forming the 6E92 1155 Witton Yd-Whitwell Quarry.

56053 throbs up the Camp Hill bank on 5th June 1993 with the 6V45 1300 Braunstone Gate-Tidal Sdgs loaded scrap. Berry's yard in Leicester was infamous for breaking up BR locos and DMUs and many a familiar engine will have made it's last journey on this regular Saturday working!

Due to problems at Pleck Junc on 26th September, 1983, 56069 will run round on Bescot Up Goods line before heading north with the 7T78 1355 Daw Mill-Ironbridge PS MGR. Class 56 workings on Ironbridge trips were fairly short lived as they were ousted by the Class 58s .
