A collection of mainly pictures taken of BR diesel locomotives in the 80s and 90s with a few more recent ones as well. Hopefully the collections will elvolve as more pics get scanned and uploaded. Freight workings and locations will predominate as that was (and still is) my main area of interest.
The photos here will not win any technical prizes but that was not why they were taken. My interest has always been in how the railway works and my photography was the means to record those workings and not just in taking photographs for art's sake! The pleasure came from talking to yard and depot staff, signalmen and train crews to understand the workings and then photograph them going about their business.
To all those BR employees that helped with timetables, SNs, trip notices, loco diagrams and TOPS reports a big thank you. It was harder in the days before mobile phones and Blackberries but probably a lot more fun... |

| 2 | LCP Holdings operated a coal depot at Pensnett, at the end of a short branch from Brierley Hill, which could also handle general Speedlink traffics. The branch was served by Bescot's Target 62 but LCP had two former BR Class 02s to shunt the depot. Here "Peter", former BR Class 02, No. 02003, shunts loaded HTVs on 17th October 1983. | Class 01 - 07 Pics | (519) |
| 3 | Another, I think very atmospheric, shot at Caldon Low shows 25302 backing in at Caldon Low on 10th May, 1985 with the 7K06 0705 Longport Junc-Caldon Low, ready for loading with stone for Witton Yard, Birmingham. | Class 25 Pics | (469) |
| 4 | As the weather has improved a little we set off to catch 25904, by now running as 7T91 1140 Maentwrog Road-Llandudno Junc TC, on this most scenic of lines. Here it is approaching Blaenau Ffestiniog. | Class 25 Pics | (464) |

| 6 | No selection of Class 25 pics would be complete with the Cambrian passenger workings which saw pairs work Euston services forward from Wolverhampton. In the last season they were so used, 25193 & 25182 climbd away from Abbey Foregate, Shrewsbury with the 1A46 1010 Aberystwyth-Euston on 1st September, 1984. | Class 25 Pics | (428) |
| 7 | The BOC plant at Ditton supplied oxygen to a number of locations around the country including the Austin-Rover complex at Morris Cowley. These ran as specials in MAP timings and here 25037 is seen with the return 6Z53 1427 Didcot-Ditton empties at Berkswell on 7th August 1986. | Class 25 Pics | (427) |
| 8 | Chasing off after 25912 we found, pretty much by chance, this idyllic spot at Pont-y-Pandy, where sheep on the line were somewhat hampering Tamworth Castle's progress with the 7T91 0700 Llandudno Junction-Maentwrog Road trip on 3rd March 1987. | Class 25 Pics | (426) |
